Jazz Influenced Rock Music
When I took the guitar as a child in high school in 1968, rock music was entering its golden age. Of course, the influence of Chicago-style blues was huge, and had for many years [especially in the UK], but the rock musicians were looking for ideas and inspiration from other genres including classical and [Moody Blues, Procol Harum]Country / Western [Byrds], Afro / Cuban [Santana] and Indians [the Beatles and other experiments]. However, despite the blues, jazz was the influence that made the biggest impression on music and musicians in the late ’60s and ’70 ‘s.
Instrumental has become a focal point for many in this period. Virtuosity of players like Eric Clapton, Mitch Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix, Jack Casady, recognized and applauded by the audience and rock musicians began to listen and find new heroes among the jazz elite. Along improvised instrumental jam was normal during the live rock shows. Jazz rock band covered by [Tito Puente's Oye Como will be Santana, Roland Kirk Serenade to a cuckoo Jethro Tull]. IIm7-V7 chord, the backbone of jazz harmony, began to appear in pop music.
